Telehealth services covered under most plans through Independent Health, Highmark, BlueCross BlueShield and Univera.
These are the only insurance companies I currently participate with. Please check with your individual insurers to find out if your particular plan covers telehealth services for nutrition provided by a registered Dietitian.
Important Information Regarding Medicare Telehealth Appointments
After September 30, 2025
For Medicare beneficiaries, coverage for telehealth services provided by dietitians ended after September 30, 2025, since Congress did not act to pass an extension. The pandemic-era flexibilities expired on October 1, 2025, reverting most coverage to stricter, pre-pandemic rules. These changes affect how and where telehealth appointments can be conducted, and they are unfortunately outside of our control.

Q: Do you accept insurance coverage?
A: Yes. I participate with Highmark/Blue cross Blue shield, Indpendent Health & Univera only.
However, since my practice is 100% telehealth, I can no longer accept MEDICARE. For Medicare beneficiaries, coverage for telehealth services provided by dietitians ended after September 30, 2025, since Congress did not act to pass an extension. Q: What is the cost of nutrition counseling?
A: The private pay rate for an initial consultation is $100 and a follow-up consultation is based on time. For example a 30-minute follow-up is $50. This is considered a discounted rate for private pay clients, those who pay out-of-pocket at the time of service. Private payment is paid with a credit card at the time you book your appointment.
Q: Will I need a referral from my doctor?
A: No. You can schedule nutrition counseling without a doctor’s referral.
Q: Can I use my HSA or FSA account to pay for products and services at Active Nutrition?
A: We cannot guarantee our products and services are allowable under your HSA or FSA account. Contact your HSA or FSA account manager for more information.
